“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” – Nelson Mandela

the sky plus feature is just beautiful when you’ve been away all weekend and come home looking to relax. got to enjoy the last in the series of mock the week late last night. one of my favourite shows.
even though frankie boyle wasn’t on this weeks show due to illness, i thought it was one of the best yet. milton jones especially was good. hadn’t heard him before. so here are just some of the great lines from this show…
‘the pollen count….that’s a difficult job’
‘if they make it illegal to wear the veil at work beekeepers are going to be furious’
‘poland and czechoslovakia are in more danger from british stag parties’
‘please welcome the man who has made the conservatives electable again……..gordon brown’
‘one of side of the battle stood william of orange. on the other side stood richard of O2 and charles of vodafone’

thanks to buff for posting this on his facebook page. i’ve read this before but, as ever, it’s even more powerful and gripping in visual form.
of course we hear these conversations constantly as to whether there really is a God. i get faced with that response many times. this is a refreshing way of looking at things. and a true dialogue which took place.
enjoy…and think.

ah i love the humour and creativity of some of our leadership team within our church youth. showed this in church yesterday but not sure if everyone caught the humour of it!! well done to stuart, andy and sarah!
‘pulse’ is back again this sunday night at muckamore and were all really excited about the year ahead. were focusing on ’story’…especially the characteristics of what makes a good story? beginning, conflict, romance, climax, a hero etc. and asking the question, ‘if God wrote a story, what would it be?’ then opening the one full story of the bible in that way. can’t wait to get going again.

so i bought at a book at the airport and 1 long haul flight and a morning on the beach later i had devoured the story of lance armstrong. his first book ‘it’s not about the bike’ is an absolutely gripping read. a refreshing book for me to grab hold of as well. maybe that’s why i read it abnormally quickly for me.
for me, the tour de france is the toughest sports event in the world. 3 weeks of over 200 kilometres every day racing at an average of 40mph while constantly climbing mountains hundreds of metres high. sticking close to your biggest rivals every day. pulling your team mates up mountains in your slipstream. sprint finishes.
many people don’t realise the team sport that cycling is. how sacrificial it is to ride hard for 4 hours and move over to allow your team mate a victory.
anyway, i would seriously recommend checking his story out. it’s a powerful story. one of endurance, perseverance, battle and honesty. one where he takes over 200 pages to even begin to describe his first tour de france victory. one where, incredibly, the most successful cycling career in history takes a back seat.
lance’s battle with cancer is the main focus of the book. a very stark and honest view of his intense chemo. he describes that as the real battle in his life and much harder than winning the tour de france. as you read the story, your admiration of this man grows.
but i admire him for the cycling stuff too! this short video says it all!!!
reluctance September 15, 2009

so i’m back blogging after taking a month to make a few changes in my life!! more on that soon.

have been thinking alot about reluctance in the last couple of days. mainly because i was doing some bible teaching training for a group last week. the folks i was doing it with thought it would be a good idea to finish with some worship. but i wasn’t so sure.
in fact, i was more than unsure. i didn’t think it was the best way to end the training. completely unrelated in some ways. and i was definitely completely reluctant to do it myself. which has been a complete turnaround in the last few years.
just a few years i was busting down doors to lead worship. i loved it. any opportunity i got to lead songs with my guitar i was grabbing with both hands. probably too keen in some ways.
and yet sunday night’s worship was amazing. for me it was so refreshing. and i’m glad i was talked into it. my reluctance was rebuked. and as i’ve reflected on this, perhaps its when were most reluctant that were most aware of God’s help with us. a bit like moses in exodus 3, its when we know that we can’t do it on our own and don’t just fall into the trap of thinking we are good enough, that we truly rely on God to guide us and breathe His life upon our reluctance…
or maybe i’m just making excuses for my laziness…??!!
